I remember this work trip like it was ten years ago, which it was, all the way back in 2010. The trip to Cologne was my first work related trip where I joined my friends, colleagues and students from Gotland University to exhibit at GDC Europe and Gamescom.
This trip was a lot of hard work comibined with a lot of fun. We started out early in the morning in Visby, loading the truck before going to the mainland via the ferry.
After the ferry the long drive through the south of Sweden and into Denmark and finally Germany began. Filled with laughs as we drove past thee contries filled with nature, corn fields and picturesque villages.
Arriving at the hotel we began work on setting up our both for GDC Europe. The coming days were filled with much work but on some of the days we managed to cram in some exploring of the beautiful city of Cologne. We managed to find this super nice restaurant, it was amazing, I can’t remember its name so if you recognize it from the photo below please let me know as I would like to revisit it.
GDC Europe wasvery interesting, filled with great speaches and connecting with other developers. The fun stuff started with Gamescom. I don’t know how many thousands upon thousands of visitors we had but there was not a single still moment, super fun.
After Gamescom the not so fun tearing the booth and driving home comes. Still we filled it with a lot of laughs and of course booze when we stopped at the Puttgarden bordershop before getting back home.
